“So the other disciples told Thomas,
“We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in
his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side,
I will not believe it.”
(John 20:25 NIV)
Are you ready
to see Jesus?
Thomas was
absent when others welcomed the resurrected Messiah. Poor Thomas. Where was he?
What kept him away from those who mourned the loss of their beloved leader?
Hardheaded
skepticism held him back from rejoicing, believing, and encouraging his comrades
in their experience, their unique God Sighting.
When have
I doubted God’s presence, His existence, His power?
Seated at
my office desk I doubted God. Persecuted, abandoned, tortured by my peers, I
contemplated walking out the door and never looking back. My Savior was dead. I
thought, “God, if you really care, please send some relief, a sign!”
“Trouble and distress have come upon
me, but your commands are my delight.”
(Psalm 119:143 NIV)
My desk
phone rang. The financial officer in another division called to offer a newly-created
position within the company to me. We had worked together on special projects
and he sought my help. “Well, that sounds very appealing,” I said, “but I need
something permanent at my current salary.”
“You’ve
got it,” he said. “How soon can you start?”
My doubts
immediately turned into faith. God did not let me suffer longer than necessary.
Thomas’ doubts also turned into faith when he was ready to see Jesus.
Recognize
doubts and surrender to faith as it knocks or calls. Get up and get moving,
open your eyes and look for Him everywhere, even in a dark, upper-room with doubting
disciples.
I will
push all doubts and fears out of my mind today and step out in faith. I hope
you will, too!
