“Ask and it will be given to you; seek
and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened to
you.”
(Matthew 7:7 NIV)
Georgia’s
sunny, winter days call for light jackets, not heavy coats.
I wished for
many years of owning a black, genuine-leather jacket, but settled instead for ones
crafted out of vinyl. Vinyl jackets are flimsy, wear at the collar, peel apart,
scratch my neck, and ultimately end up in the trash.
My dormant leather-jacket-search was awakened one Sunday before Christmas.
The middle
school chorus was scheduled to perform that afternoon at the annual community
Christmas concert. I popped in for a brief sound check on stage. During the
break before the performance, I drove to our local Goodwill store to see if by
some slim chance they had a leather jacket in my size.
The
parking lot was full and the front doors automatically opened as I approached. I
located the women’s racks, and casually flipped through many different,
colorful jackets. There it was! I couldn’t believe my eyes! A hidden, black leather
jacket in my size was hanging here, waiting just for me! The low price on the
tag was sweet icing on the cake.
I exited
the store with bag in hand and was overcome with the love God poured out on me.
I praised Him there, in the middle of the parking lot. Finding my new-old
jacket was a miracle. He gave me the desire and fulfilled it years later.
Our
heavenly Father, like an earthly father, reveals Himself to each of us in
different and unique ways. People tell me of experiences similar to mine, their
own God Sightings. These stories are altar stones, reminders of His love and
grace in our daily lives.
I will look
for His blessings and praise Him today. I hope you will, too!
