“Asher’s food will be rich; he will
provide delicacies fit for a king.”
(Genesis 49:20 NIV)
“I would
love to eat some Boudin,” my husband announced one afternoon while enjoying the
view from our front porch. Jeff often hankers after Louisiana cuisine, since he
grew up near Shreveport on Barksdale Air Force Base where his father was
stationed.
I searched
online for the Cajun delicacy of pork liver and rice in a sausage casing, but
shipping prices were prohibitive. It must be packed in dry ice to ship to us in
Georgia. So, Jeff decided to table his desires.
One
Tuesday afternoon, about a week later, we pulled into the parking lot of our
local Walmart to purchase new jeans for Jeff. He misplaced a pair of his
favorite slacks sometime over the summer.
We are
impressed with the quality of meats carried by Walmart and decided to check out
their available selections. While Jeff inspected the steaks, my eyes were drawn
nearby to the link sausages. Next to the Italian link sausage packages were
several packs of Boudin! I couldn’t believe my eyes! In fact I made such a fuss
a lady shopper near us chuckled and quickly moved away. Those crazy
Louisiana people! she must have thought.
Little did
we know Boudin was right under our noses, not far from home. I could hear God snicker
with the lady pushing her cart past us. He put the desire in my husband’s mind
and then led us to the exact spot where He had hidden it for us. I am still
astounded at the perfect timing of His amazing grace! Like a hoarder I picked
up several more bundles on another Walmart trip not long afterward.
I will thank
God for all the delicacies He provides in unexpected ways. I hope you will,
too!
