“He determines the number of stars and
calls them each by name.”
(Psalm 147:4 NIV)
A loose
definition of intimacy is “into me see.” Merriam-Webster defines intimacy
as “the state of being familiar; something of a personal or private nature.”
When I think of God, I think of my personal, private relationship with His Son,
Jesus. It is a relationship of surrendering my mind and heart for Him to
clearly see into me as He lets me see into Him.
Oswald
Chambers wrote, “The things that make God dear to us are not so much His great
big blessings as the tiny things, because they show His amazing intimacy with
us; He knows every detail of our individual lives.” Our heavenly Father does
not want to hide anything from us and we cannot hide anything from Him.
“The Lord confides in those who fear
Him;
He makes His covenant known to them.”
(Psalm 25:14 NIV)
Intimacy
is about the little things, the hidden details that only God knows. When I
pray, I poke pinholes into my mind and let my thoughts spill out to Jesus. He
sees my hidden life through the widening gaps. Like water through gossamer, the
holes grow bigger with use.
God knows
every hair on my body, every cell within, every atom, and every molecule. He imagined
each tiny aspect of me and fashioned them together as meticulously as only He
can. (I need to read that sentence again – it is so powerful!)
Jennifer
Ueckert recently reminded me to “find joy in the small things because God meets
us there.” He calls us to be one with Him, to discover secret details of who He
is. It is a give-and-take relationship bursting with shared intimacies over a
lifetime.
I will
seek a more intimate relationship with my Savior today. I hope you will, too!
