“The Lord your God is with you, he is
mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.”
(Zephaniah 3:17 NIV)
Packing up
the camper one Wednesday morning I strained a muscle in my lower back. I turned
and twisted the wrong way as I lifted the heavy, plywood cover off the seat
compartment. The ride home was excruciating, but I managed to doze off a few
times. The next day I chose to endure the pain and keep a lunch appointment with
a dear friend.
Friday
morning came and I could barely roll out of bed. Topical medicines and ibuprofen
were not helping. It hurt to move and I didn’t know what to do. I cried out to
God for help, for some direction or sign.
My phone
rang. My sister called on her way to work, like she sometimes does. We chatted
for a while before I told her about my pain and struggle. I confessed my foolishness
to pick up and move things too heavy for my frame. She confided to me a
chiropractor once put her on a bed of ice and then she suggested I should try
it, too. When we hung up, I went downstairs, filled a bag with crushed ice, and
gingerly rested my aching back on it in my recliner. The pain subsided almost immediately
and I drifted off to sleep.
I was able
to stand up out of the chair pain-free! I knew it was straight from my heavenly
Father. I am so glad my sister called that morning. After only a few days, my
back was healed.
I will thank God for all the maladies and remedies He sends my way to remind me of my dependence on His goodness. I hope you will, too!
