“Indeed, the very hairs of your head
are all numbered.
Don’t be afraid; you are worth more
than many sparrows.”
(Luke 12:7 NIV)
I enjoyed
watching “The Truman Show” one night with my husband. In the 1998 film, Truman
(Jim Carrey) was the star of a television show that aired 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. Over five thousand cameras in a small town on an isolated island gave
viewers insight into everything he did. They spied on Truman’s every-day
comings and goings.
As I was
thinking about the movie the next day, I realized it hints at what God does
with those he loves. No hidden cameras required, our heavenly Father sees and
knows everything about us.
My
neighborhood was on alert. A prisoner had been released and was living with his
family down the street. All eyes have been in that direction for many years,
prayers lifted, and encouragement offered. One good thing God has brought out
of that danger is my husband now sometimes walks with me in the mornings.
I thank my
heavenly Father for using others to protect me while I can be a blessing to
them. God sends others to watch over us, like guardian angels. We are never
alone. He is not watching from a distance as Bette Midler’s 1990 song, “From a
Distance” would suggest. Immanuel is always with us.
We might
feel a little intimidated that our heavenly Father knows everything about us.
There is no place to run and hide from Him. Truman discovered the truth about
his televised life and walked away from it. I will never be able to walk away
from the God of the universe who knows every cell in my body.
I thank
God for his immediate presence, care, and protection. I hope you will, too!
