“I have set my rainbow in the clouds,
and it will be the sign of the covenant
between me and the earth.”
(Genesis 9:13 NIV)
I was a
local church’s pianist for eleven years, with a three year sabbatical in the
middle. Near the end of my tenure I felt the Holy Spirit shift in my heart. I sensed
a call to move on and allow God to do something new in the church and in me. Although
anxious and afraid of slipping out of the center of His will, I was safely
guided through the fog.
The day
came when I shut the door and walked away from the past. Peaceful sleep and
rest welcomed me into their arms. I looked out my window the next day and saw
the most beautiful rainbow. It seemed to touch the earth directly in front of
me. I felt God’s presence, telling me this notice was for me - the same sign He
brought to Noah. The storm was over. New life had begun!
Crystal McDowell describes God’s rainbow in this way: “God is
above man and He always keeps His promises. The rainbow covenant is just one of
the many promises He makes. God promises to never leave nor forsake us. He will
meet all of our needs according to His riches and glory. The Lord answers all
of our prayers according to His will. Believers can take great confidence in
knowing that God’s promises are steadfast and secure.”
The Holy Spirit is with us in all the struggles of life. I
can trust Him to always keep His promises and lead me out of any storm into a
new life, filled with His grace and goodness.
I will
stop and recall my heavenly Father’s covenant with me, especially when I see a
rainbow. I hope you will, too!
