“Seek
the peace and prosperity of the city
to
which I have carried you into exile.
Pray
to the Lord for it,
because
if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
(Jeremiah
29:7 NIV)
My
favorite place to visit early in the morning is our porch. After spending time
with Jesus in my studio and writing love notes to Him, I step gingerly down the
stairs and brew another cup of coffee in our Keurig machine. I put on my jacket
and step out of the porch door.
As soon as
I light our propane fire pit, Jeff, my husband, appears in the rocking chair
next to me. We take in the beauty of the morning and discuss the day ahead. Unscheduled
interruptions roll in over my brain and try to distract me. They seek to rob me
of the joy of the morning.
One
morning I received a phone call from a Bridge coordinator. One of her players
was sick and she needed a replacement. I had a hair appointment, but it was
easily rescheduled to later that same afternoon.
I like to
“dig in deep” when asked to help a friend. It reminds me of our granddaughter
“digging in deep” to get a muddy beverage for her Pop Pop from the bottom of
the lake’s shallow waters. She loved to play that game with him.
Stepping
out of my comfort zone is stressful, brought on by carking (causing
worry, trouble, or anxiety) care. Like a writer in “The Valley of Vision” I ask
my Lord to “deliver me from carking care, and make me a happy, holy person.” I
want to dig in deep and not complain.
No matter
how tough times become, I will promise to be available and dig in deep where and
when He wants me to serve. I hope you will, too!
