“Blessed is the man who makes the Lord
his trust,
who does not look to the proud,
to those who turn aside to false gods.”
(Psalm 40:4 NIV)
On the way
home from camping at Watson Mill Bridge State Park, I looked over at my
husband, Jeff, and commented, “I feel like I’m sitting in a hole!” My neck was
tight from straining to see over the steering wheel. “Maybe you just need to
adjust your seat,” he replied.
The next morning,
I opened the driver’s side door and started pushing on the buttons on the side
of the seat. As if by magic, the seat moved up and forward. It was exactly what
I needed. I climbed into my Tahoe, adjusted the mirrors to the new seat height,
and drove to the doctor’s office for my appointment.
I felt
like I was driving a new car! I could see the hood, the road, everything in my
path so much better. A smile crossed my lips as I noticed I was not stressed
and drove confidently under the speed limit. Could adjusting the car seat
really make that much of a difference?
What other
adjustments do I need to make in my everyday life? Abandon my will. Surrender
my desires. Yield my thoughts. All of that requires faith, a rock-solid faith
in God, who will take care of me. Oswald Chambers reminded me, “The salvation
of God is deliverance out of self entirely into union with Himself.” Therein is
the biggest, most important adjustment required.
I
transformed myself from a little-old-lady driving a truck, to a more confident
Nana piloting a Limo! A few simple adjustments were necessary. Heart
adjustments are required for deeper, permanent renovations.
I will adjust my mind, my plans, my days to God’s will. I hope you will, too!
