(3 John 4 NIV)
Bible Study Fellowship met Wednesday mornings at Shades
Mountain Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. I was the Secretary, maintaining
membership rolls and assisting with class administration.
One day my husband came home from work and announced, “You
need to get a job!” Three years of being a stay-at-home mom was skidding to an
abrupt halt. No more Newcomers’ Club, no more party bridge, no more tennis, no
more school volunteer. I returned to the world of checks and balances.
That didn’t stop me from participating in BSF. I joined the
evening women’s group at my church, Briarwood Presbyterian. The leaders were considering
starting a program for students, children of attendees.
I felt the nudge of the Holy Spirit. In my hotel room at a
BSF retreat, He led me to 3 John 4. I
shared it with my leader and was appointed as the new Children’s Director for
the women’s evening class. It was a honor to lead and train the Children’s Leaders,
forging a new way, a new path to serve children.
It is an honor to courageously point others, especially the
younger generations, to Jesus. We are called to make this place and time joyful
for those around us now and those coming after us, no matter how dim the future
may seem. All is in God’s hands.
We change, our plans change, our roles change. God never
changes. His Truth will forever stand. How is He calling you to serve young and
old, in His kingdom?
I will follow His lead and thank Him for calling me to serve
His children today. I hope you will, too!
