“May the groans of the prisoners come
before you;
by the strength of your arm preserve
those condemned to die.”
(Psalm 79:11 NIV)
I watched as she raced toward the cliff’s edge, clutching
the tiny hands of her two children, dragging them to certain death. She
hesitated at the precipice long enough for a large hand to reach down and jerk
her back to safety.
I awoke with a jolt. The woman in my dream was me! I vowed
that morning to turn my life back to Him and away from foolish, pending choices.
I was so thankful God grabbed me by the collar and pulled me away from danger,
out of harm’s way.
“When
he hesitated, the men grasped his hand and the hands of his wife and of his two
daughters and led them safely out of the city,
for
the Lord was merciful to them.”
(Genesis
19:16 NIV)
Have you
ever visited the edge of the cliff? Did you, like Lot’s wife, turn and longingly
look back after God had mercifully rescued you? Or did you thank Him and
proceed to live in freedom and peace in His love? We too often ignore the
impending consequences of our choices.
I watched mind-boggling,
documented accounts of airline pilot suicides on an episode of the Smithsonian
channel’s Air Disasters. A trusted pilot selfishly and intentionally
crashing an airplane is horrifying. Not only do they ‘jump off the cliff’ but
take a load of innocent passengers with them. Our actions can profoundly impact
the lives of others. We dare not take this responsibility lightly.
May God
grant us courage to approach the edge of every cliff with caution and faith. He
is our Refuge and our Rescuer.
I will value
the lives of those with me on this journey as I strive to make the right choices. I hope you will, too!
