“But when you pray, go into your room,
close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father who
sees what is done in secret will reward you.”
(Matthew 6:6 NIV)
I remember as a child hiding in the linen closet at the end of the long hallway to our
bedrooms. Friends and siblings played “blind man’s bluff” (sans blindfolds)
in the pitch black darkness. My hiding place was a secret, at least for a while.
War
Room is a 2015
American Christian film about believers who fought doubts in their closets,
prayed for deeper faith in their secret places, and witnessed dramatic changes in
their lives. This movie boosted my faith up a notch.
Do you
have a “secret place” where you meet with God? My secret place is wherever I
am. Anytime I feel God’s presence I talk to Him out loud or
silently in my mind. Since my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, wherever I
am He is with me and hears me. No one needs to know I am talking with Him. Not having a specific location gives me freedom to meet with God all day and
night.
When
“Winter Jasmine” by Kevin Kendle comes on Spotify's Jonn Serrie radio station,
I sense God gently reveal His presence and usher me into His throne room.
I imagine myself standing before my Father and Jesus, covered in the beauty of
the Holy Spirit. I believe God wants me there with Him and wants to
confide in me all the amazing things He is doing.
God has
called us to secretly lay everything at His feet. He already knows what we
need, but longs for us to acknowledge His sovereignty over our lives.
I will
enter the secret place often to meet with my God. I hope you will, too!
