“Honest Scales and balances are from
the Lord;
all the weights in the bag are of his
making.”
(Proverbs 16:11 NIV)
I opened
my sleepy eyes on day eleven after receiving the first COVID vaccine. The
curtains on my windows spun around me – vertigo! That dreaded sense of
imbalance forced me to keep my head straight and level in order to function through
the day.
I walk daily
to strengthen my legs, as well as my heart. Running is not in my genes. My legs
ache to move slowly, steadily on a solid path. Walking poles help to keep me steady
and balanced.
My husband
and I quickly discovered that exiting our camper required some assistance. We
ordered a half step and a grab bar. The additional step reduced the drop to the
ground from the camper’s door, and the grab bar installed on the side provided successful
exits and entrances. Balance secured!
The gentle
tip-tap sound grew louder as rain pelted the plastic roof of the camper and the
soft ceilings over the beds. It was no longer drowned out by the low hum of the
space heater, turned on high to cut the early-dawn chill in the popup. Power
was out! We were off balance. I called the dealer and asked how to restore electricity
to the outlets. Russell directed us to switches that had tripped and voila, we
had power again! Our balance restored.
Life is a
balancing act between sickness and health, right and wrong, off and on. Gravity
was created to provide physical balance on this planet - to be able to walk,
run, and stand without fear of falling. Jesus provides the perfect spiritual
balance between God and man.
I will be
thankful for all the ways God keeps me in balance throughout my day. I hope you
will, too!
