“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel – which means, “God with us.”
(Matthew 1:23 NIV)
I needed a gift for an ornament exchange party during the Christmas holidays. Miniature gingerbread houses and little red trucks at Hobby Lobby caught my eye. I wrapped the gifts in a festive bag, picked up a friend, and drove to the party held in a beautiful home in the country.
The hostess passed around a tiny Christmas tree with numbered tags to determine the order for selecting gifts. The recipient of my anonymous gift commented on the gingerbread house and was especially thrilled with the little red truck, but not for long. The bag was immediately stolen by the next participant. One more “steal” and the gift was “dead.”
I thought nothing of the little red truck until the next day when I was loading groceries in my car. A Volkswagen convertible pulled in beside me and a woman emerged. She asked if I was at the party the night before. I recognized her as the first recipient of my gift.
She told me of her quest to find the lost little red truck - it had been separated from the gingerbread house. She had asked all her friends to check their purses and in their cars. I said, “I was told the truck was secretly passed to another person during the gift exchange.”
She was relieved and thanked God for bringing me to her. He used me to solve the mystery of the lost truck for her. In that moment, I felt God’s presence in a powerful way. Our heavenly Father is truly with us and cares even about our little red truck problems.
I will rejoice in all unexpected revelations of Himself today. I hope you will, too!
