“You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth
and clothed me with joy.”
(Psalm 30:11 NIV)
One Sunday
morning our congregation sang “Thy Mercy, My God, Is the Theme of My Song” as
our Hymn of Praise. As I sang the second verse I thought of my recent injury
and how my heavenly Father brought me through the pain and recovery. Then I
looked up at the choir and caught the tear-filled eyes of one of the sopranos.
She recently experienced a close brush with death and the words touched her
heart, too.
Without
Thy sweet mercy, I could not live here
Sin would reduce me to utter despair
But through Thy free goodness, my spirit's revive
And He, that first made me, still keeps me alive
After my
accident friends and family would ask, “How are you feeling?” One day I
joyfully exclaimed, “I feel as if it never happened!” My healing was perfect
and complete with no lingering effects.
Sometimes
I want to look inside my body, to see how God has healed me, to see what my
once-fractured bones look like. Then my faith kicks in. I don’t need to know
the details of my life – they are in the hands of God. He holds my broken
pieces and mends them as if they were never hurt or offended. I have to give them
to Him and trust Him with them. My heavenly Father takes my life to make me
better, more like Him.
When God
resurrected the body of Jesus, He healed it completely and left the scars in
His hands intact for our remembrance. I can imagine what my heavenly body may
be like – healed, almost as if it never happened.
I will thank my heavenly Father for keeping me alive in joy and sorrow. I hope you will, too!
