“If you have faith as small as a
mustard seed,
you can say to this mountain,
‘Move from here to there’ and it will
move.”
(Matthew 17:20 NIV)
We pulled our camper into Georgia’s Elijah Clark State Park for the first time. A sea of tents with a smattering of trailers filled the waterside campground. After we situated the trailer into our reserved campsite my husband plugged in the electric power. He then turned on the water. Nothing! We looked at each other and Jeff said, “Call the office.”
Within a
few minutes a maintenance man pulled up in his golf cart and surveyed the
situation. Two more men were called to assist. Jeff asked, “Can we continue to
set up the camper?” “Certainly!” the workers replied.
In faith
we continued down our checklist, saving the water hookup for last. Before too
long, all was well and fresh water flowed into the camper. Thankfully, more
than just a drop. In my heart I heard Jesus say, “Did you doubt?”
Our church
recently celebrated a milestone. Lake Oconee Presbyterian’s congregation
rejoiced as they looked back over twenty-five years of service. It is a big
step for a humble, faithful team, and a giant leap for God’s kingdom in our
community, more than a drop in the bucket. Big and small steps and drops of
water are like the mustard seeds of faith with which Jesus encouraged his
disciples.
Three
white pekin ducks swam in front of us at the campsite, waddled to the other
side of the lake’s slough, and disappeared into the woods. I recognized them as
another God Sighting and named them Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I will faithfully look for my heavenly Father in small steps, mustard seeds, drops of water, and all creatures around me today. I hope you will, too!
