“I revealed myself to those who did not
ask for me;
I was found by those who did not seek
me.”
(Isaiah 65:1 NIV)
In the mid
1800’s two ships set sail from England. They were assigned the task of
discovering the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean.
All was lost within two years. Their tragic story is depicted in the AMC drama
series “The Terror.”
One of the
highlights of 1968 was the flight of Apollo 8 to the moon and back. Man explored
the surface of the moon up close for the first time. When the earth first appeared
on the moon’s horizon, the term “earthrise” was born and so was a new
perspective of our home planet. An astronaut read from chapter 1 of Genesis,
and all who listened experienced creation anew.
When I
look out my window, God reveals to me that no one else will ever see Him in a
sunrise exactly as I do. He is in the big and the small, the many and the few.
“Behold, I will create new heavens and
a new earth.”
(Isaiah 65:17 NIV)
Isaiah
reminds us this planet is not our eternal home. We travel to the farthest
corners, escape the pull of earth’s gravity, and are still not satisfied. Our
heavenly Father created a desire in each of us to want to learn more about what
lies beyond. His purpose is much bigger than ours.
My Lord
holds the new heavens and new earth in His hands and will reveal them when my
heart is truly ready to embark on a new adventure with Him. I can only imagine
what unlimited exploration in eternity will be like.
I thank
the Holy Spirit for launching me to discover His kingdom. I hope you will, too!
