“He will yet fill your mouth with
laughter
and your lips with shouts of joy.”
(Job 8:21 NIV)
During a dominoes
game one afternoon, a friend recalled a conversation with another friend who babysat
her young grandson. She knew he was picky, so she asked him, “How does your
mother cut your sandwich for you?” In obvious exaggeration, he opened his
little arms and answered, “I am just a child! You are an adult! Don’t you know
how to cut a sandwich?”
According
to Google: “A renowned surgeon from the thirteenth century named Henri de
Mondeville, coined the phrase “Laughter is the best medicine.” He used humor in
his practice and found telling patients jokes actually eased their pain and
sped up the recovery process.”
On one of
our granddaughter’s visits, she placed a glass of water in an unexpected
location. When I asked Dahlia what it was for, she replied, “Nana, it’s for
drinking! You pour it into your mouth and swallow!”
One of my
favorite Little Rascals episodes included an angry business man. He chided
the children, “If I were your father, I would punish you!” One of the rascals responded,
“If you were our father, we would punish ourselves!”
My
husband, Jeff, and I like to watch Hogan’s Heroes episodes on Amazon
Prime TV. We also watch snippets of Tim Conway on The Carol Burnett Show.
It is a
gift to chuckle at myself with others and see things and people with a fresh,
new perspective. Time on earth is temporary and should be enjoyed. As if
standing in the narthex of a magnificent cathedral, I look forward to stepping
through the door into eternity to be amazed and laugh with joy.
I will look for humor around me and enjoy moments of laughter with my Lord. I hope you will, too!
