“Who among you fears the Lord
and obeys the word of His servant?
Let him who walks in the dark, who has
no light,
trust in the name of the Lord and rely
on his God.”
(Isaiah 50:10 NIV)
My friend,
Susan, and I have experienced many struggles together in our community of
faith. Her patient listening and wise advice have kept me in line and looking
up to our heavenly Father. In response to one of my weary, negative texts she
encouraged me, “You can do it! Be the light!”
My husband
has placed solar spotlights on trees, flags, and points of interest around our
yard. During the day, the batteries are charged with rays from the sun so lights
can shine in the darkness and bring attention to beautiful objects. Like those
solar lights, I am charged in the morning when I read the Bible, so I can shine
lights of God’s love into the darkness during the day.
I
sometimes wake and imagine objects (bicycles and flowers) hanging from the
ceiling, or someone entering the room. My daughter, Libby, confessed she had
the same problem until she tried sleeping with a mask. I ordered one from
Amazon and immediately put it to the test. It was comforting to slip into total
darkness. As I lay there, I spoke in my heart to my heavenly Father. Is this
what separation from you is like, Lord? Is this what those who do not know you
experience?
I could
not wait to remove the mask the next morning and allow light back into my eyes.
I wanted to see more clearly and start a new day reflecting His light to others
around me.
I will trust in God to shine His light of Truth on me to help lead others out of their darkness. I hope you will, too!
