“If it is the Lord’s will,
we will live and do this or that.”
(James 4:15 NIV)
My
daughter, Libby, approached me one day and suggested I write a daily devotional
book. She told me she likes to read something every morning, as I do, and
perhaps I could write one for her.
I confess
I had thought about compiling the past seven-plus years of weekly God
Sightings, but my husband reminded me that readers might remember something
re-published. I needed to write something new.
I brought
the idea to my heavenly Father. What do you want me to do, Lord? How can I
write something relevant? You know the needs of the saints you have chosen to
read the words you give to me.
“Now
listen, you who say,
‘Today
or tomorrow we will go to this or that city,
spend
a year there, carry on business and make money.’
Why,
you do not even know what will happen tomorrow.
What
is your life?
You
are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”
(James
4:13-14 NIV)
The answer slipped into my thoughts. I could
write a shorter God Sighting every day in the coming year, a concise
devotional to be published in a book the following year. Thoughts of the seasons
would stay in the season. Holiday prayers would be written during the holidays.
They year will come alive as I see my heavenly Father and Jesus in everything
as the Holy Spirit revealed.
The thought of writing a daily meditation motivates me, because I
already write to my heavenly Father every morning. Those words can easily slide
onto the page of a designated devotional.
I will
look forward to all the wonderful assignments God has planned for me to do as I
serve in His kingdom. I hope you will, too!
