Angel Rescue

by Macy Johnson
“For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
(Psalm 91:11-12 NIV)

My flight from Atlanta bounced down a Newark, NJ runway on a busy, frosty, Monday morning in January. I slid into the passenger parade from the terminal gate to the air-train, to the baggage claim. Grabbing my zebra-motif suitcase, I stepped into another accounting-controls-audit week at a manufacturing facility.

My long, black, leather coat with my keyboard scarf was draped over my shoulders. I decided to ride the escalator up to the air-train station, suitcase in one hand and computer bag in the other. Big mistake! Neither gloved hand was free for the safety handrail.

I rolled my computer bag on one step, followed on the next step, then eased my suitcase up onto the moving step behind me. Half-way up the escalator I lost my balance. The suitcase jerked, pulled me to my back, skidding down the unforgiving steps!

Before I could call out for help, two men at the top ran down, gathered me and my bags on the still-moving staircase, and carried me safely up to the landing. Like angels, they were there at that moment to rescue me.

Upon arrival at the plant, I pulled open the main door, was overcome by the nauseating smell of dog treats, and noticed the emergent, sore, goose-egg on my lower back. The accounting manager promptly gave me a bag of ice to help reduce the swelling and ease the pain. Although shaky from the accident, I was relieved to be able to work, nothing broken, nothing lost, no hospital visit necessary.

I will thank God for all the angels He brings to rescue me. I hope you will, too!
