“Then you will know the truth, and the
truth will set you free.”
(John 8:32 NIV)
One of my
very favorite Bible verses is John 8:32. For any addict this verse is the
ticket to freedom. To escape from the pull of this life is a gift straight from
the Savior’s hands.
I asked
God to take away my addictions. He responded, “You have this struggle to teach
you to want more of me.” If He dissolved my cravings, I might not run to Him
and fall at His feet for mercy and grace. He reminded me, “You will battle with
sinful addictions every moment you breathe on this earth. But don’t worry,
because I have overcome this world.”
Contentment
is a rare quality found in wisdom to accept what I cannot change and courage to
change what I can. I am free to choose Jesus, follow Him, and push my passions
aside.
Early one morning
after a painful battle I watched an eagle soar high above the tree tops. I longed
to soar with the magnificent bird.
“Those who hope in the Lord will renew
their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow
weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
(Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
I am
encouraged when I read the writings of others who struggle. I hope you will gain
courage from my confessions. We can lift each other up in prayer and trust that
the God of pure love will mold us into the children He created us to be.
Christ’s love
changes us, exposes our expectations, gives us hope, and sets us free, free,
free to serve in His kingdom!
I will celebrate
my freedom and be hopeful in the struggles I face today with God’s help. I hope
you will, too!
