“We have this hope as an anchor for the
soul,
firm and secure.”
(Hebrews 6:19 NIV)
Our son
and grandson visited recently for a week away together. One sunny afternoon we
took my pontoon boat out for a spin. Having a boat-lift affords us this luxury
during warm days in cool months. I chauffeured them around the lake, past our
special swimming sites, Midway Island and Ingles Cove, to our first-discovered
and most favorite spot, Lost Anchor Bay.
Several
years ago, when the Sun Tracker pontoon was new, several of my son-in-law’s
family members came for a visit. I took them to this favorite spot. The men
dove in for a refreshing swim while the women relaxed on the boat’s deck and
reminisced. When it was time to weigh the anchor, the men couldn’t raise it.
The anchor had lodged itself between fallen tree logs at the bottom of the
lake. We cut the anchor loose. Thus the name for the swimming spot – Lost
Anchor Bay.
Jesus is
my Anchor to keep me from drifting away from Him. I am tied to Him by a short,
strong line of faith and focus. How tragic it would be if I cut the line and
left my Anchor behind. Attached to Him, I avoid dangerous people, situations,
and teachings.
Many
churches are caught up in the middle of a storm. A formidable force of false
teaching tries to steer congregations away from the Truth. It threatens to tear
memberships apart. I am not wise enough to understand or know the best next
steps, but Jesus knows. He is our Anchor, our common ground. He will tether us to
Himself - the Way, the Truth, and the Life - if we trust Him.
I will fiercely hold on to Jesus, my Anchor. I hope you will, too!
