“What do you think? There was a man who
had two sons.
He went to the first and said,
‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’”
(Matthew 21:28 NIV)
It was
time to put our beloved popup camper on the market. We had purchased a new camper
trailer and packed it for its maiden voyage. I filled out all the forms online
on RVTrader.com to list the popup for sale, throw out the bait, and entice bites.
Less than
a week later, while in the middle of our camping trip with our brand new Johnson
Playhouse, I received an email from RV Trader. I had a lead! Two more
nibbles followed close behind. Each email included the question: “Is your popup
camper still available?”
Electronic
conversations ensued, back and forth, with questions and answers, clarifications
and details. One email chain migrated to text messages. I discovered
connections straight from our heavenly Father – mutual friends on Facebook. God
brought us together with the commonality of a love of camping and presented a
new home for the popup.
I receive
questions from God regularly similar to those in the RV Trader emails: “Are you
available to serve in my kingdom today?”
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord
saying,
“Whom shall I send? And who will go
for us?”
And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
(Isaiah 6:8 NIV)
God presents
ways to bless us, not just use us for His kingdom. I believe the son who said
he would serve (in Jesus’ parable in Matthew 21) missed out on the blessings
from his father when he backed out and didn’t work in the vineyard. The son who
did serve received the blessings.
I will make
myself available for every opportunity to serve in God’s kingdom. I hope you
will, too!
