“Thanks be to God for His indescribable
gift!”
(2 Corinthians 9:15 NIV)
I was
scheduled to volunteer at my local hospital’s gift shop. Mary Ellen opened the
door for me and we visited for a while before she disappeared into the storage
room. I moved around the displays with the help of my cane and inspected new
items. A customer walked in and I noticed her employee badge.
“Do you
work in Radiology?” I asked. “Yes,” she replied. I told her of my recent injury
and frustration - no one had adequately explained my medical test results to
me. “I’ll be right back,” she said and hurried out the door. She returned with documents
in her hand. “You have a fractured pelvis. These should help,” she offered. She
was a messenger from God.
After we
closed the shop for the day, I walked down the hall to the Rehabilitation
department for my first day of physical therapy. I filled out paperwork and told
Conor about my medical files questions. He quickly pulled them up on the
hospital’s computer system and explained the X-ray results to me! Conor then
led me through several tests for range-of-motion and endurance. The gift he
gave me that afternoon was knowledge and confidence to do what I was beforehand
afraid to try. I felt like a new person, excited to return to physical therapy and
with visions of walking again without assistance.
I invited
my next-door neighbor, Susan, over for tea the following afternoon and relayed
how God had recently blessed me with new knowledge and insight. She in turn
blessed me with caring attentiveness and wisdom from her experiences.
I became
the “gifted” one while on missions to serve others.
I will
thank God for all the indescribable blessings he bestows upon me from His bountiful
gift gallery. I hope you will, too!
