“Here I am! I stand at the door and
knock.
If anyone hears my voice and opens the
door,
I will come in and eat with him, and he
with me.”
(Revelation 3:20 NIV)
One Sunday
morning I was the substitute pianist at my church and presented Mark Hayes’
arrangement of “People Need the Lord” for the anthem. Steve Green recorded Greg
Nelson and Phill Mchugh’s song in 1984. The lyrics gracefully express the story
of our need to help those in need like us:
We are called to take His light
To a world where wrong seems right
Empty people filled with care
Headed who knows where
Through His love our hearts can feel
All the grief they bear
They must hear the words of life
Only we can share
People need the Lord
At the end of broken dreams
He’s the open door
When will we realize people need the
Lord?
When will we realize we must give our
lives?
I am a
needy being. When I complain to my husband, Jeff, he reminds me the
difficulties we face today are recycled. The problems I encounter are not new,
only with different locations and times. Nations and people rise and fall under
God’s loving, watchful care.
Although
created in God’s image, the human race has fallen and cannot save itself. Our
heavenly Father planted a bottomless pit in our hearts for Him alone to fill if
we ask Him to do so.
Every day
I fail at every task and wound others in the process. Every moment I need
Jesus. Every second I need forgiveness from my Creator and the Lover of my
soul.
“He lifted the needy out of their
affliction.”
(Psalm 107:41 NIV)
I will live my life to point others to the only Savior we need. I hope you will, too!
