“He has shown kindness by giving you
rain from heaven
and crops in their seasons;
He provides you with plenty of food
and fills your hearts with joy.”
(Acts 14:17 NIV)
My husband
and I piled into my car for our monthly trip to Athens, forty-five minutes
away. Toilet paper was on my list, because we were almost out. I was concerned
that Costco might be hectic with additional customers after the horrendous
damage of Hurricane Helene.
As Jeff
and I strolled through the fully-stocked store, we noticed every cart contained a
large package of Kirkland toilet paper. Some shopping carts had multiple
packages. We looked at each other and asked, “What’s going on?” I wondered if
this was a return to the COVID pandemic panic mentality.
We pulled
into the checkout line behind a man with only toilet paper in his basket. He
turned to us and explained, “We already have five packages at home, but my wife
sent me out for one more!”
I
understood the strike at the seaports could delay overseas receipts, but toilet
paper is manufactured in our country! I would like to think the end is near,
that Jesus is coming soon, like a friend recently suggested. With a chemical
plant spewing out deadly fumes from a fire not far from our home, a hurricane, and
the strike, signs pointed in that direction.
Thankfully,
Costco was ready for this shortage, with hundreds of packages of Kirkland
toilet paper available. They had planned ahead to provide for our needs.
This is
the time for those of faith to stand firm and be a light of hope to this dark
world. I must point to the only true Provision in this life – Jesus.
I will
thank my Heavenly Father for satisfying all my needs in His Son. I hope you
will, too!
