“His delight is in the law of the
Lord,
and on His law he meditates day and
night.”
(Psalm 1:2 NIV)
January brought
me a new “Word of the Year”: delight. Merriam-Webster defines delight as
“the act of taking great pleasure.” When do I take delight in God’s presence?
During the
Christmas season several recipes for yummy fudge scrolled across the screen on my
phone. I had never made fudge before, but thought it would not be too
challenging. I was clearly wrong! After two failed attempts, I laid down my
spatula and surrendered. This endeavor to try something new did not bring
delight. I find joy in writing and making music to my heavenly Father. They are
my God-given assignments. I will leave candy-making to those called to create confectionary
delights.
I was asked
to represent my high school in the county Junior Miss contest. Dreams of
becoming Escambia County’s next representative in Florida’s state competition
pushed me in a new direction. I composed a letter to Jesus, arranged it with piano
accompaniment, and sang it for my talent presentation. I did not receive the
first-place award, but delighted in my Savior anyway. He gave me the song and
the courage to sing it publicly for His glory.
“He is like a tree planted by streams
of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.”
(Psalm 1:3 NIV)
Holley
Gerth wrote, “If God is always with us, then it’s up to us to learn to live in
His presence.” I do not want to miss one opportunity to dwell in the company of
my Savior, Jesus Christ. As I commune with Him, my faith and delight will grow.
I will look
forward to every moment in my eternal walk of faith. I hope you will, too!
