“This is the disciple who testifies to
these things
and who wrote them down.
We know that his testimony is true.”
(John 21:24 NIV)
During the
last years before retirement I was a Documentation Specialist. My role in
various organizations was to put accounting job processes into words, clearly
organized and verified. I reported to management and their accounting firms.
I would
take a seat next to the assigned accountant and ask, “What do you do?” I
learned what triggered the process, how the steps flowed, and the desired outcome.
The end result was a detailed audit of the process along with a job description
that could be used by another in the vacancy of that position.
Now I use
my skills to document the processes of my church’s Treasurer position and my
hospital’s gift shop. God gave me unique abilities for me to use as I serve in
His kingdom. Process documentation, although drudgery for most, is a joy for
me. “Plan the work and work the plan” is my motto.
My
favorite recipes are kept in Word documents on my laptop. When I try a new
dish, I tweak the recipe to fit my needs and put into my words. My favorite
meal to cook is Eggs Benedict. Following a list of ingredients, is a list of
utensils needed. I lay all necessary tools on the kitchen counter before the
tricky process begins.
Flexibility
works its way into my documentation processes as needed. I wonder at the recall
and documentation of the Gospel books’ writers. How could they possibly
remember all those details about Jesus? The Holy Spirit gave them the words.
The Holy Spirit gives me words for my records.
I will document
processes and rejoice in the Truth my heavenly Father reveals to me. I hope you
will, too!
