“He looked up and said, ‘I see people;
they look like trees walking around.’”
(Mark 8:24 NIV)
During my
morning devotional I read about how Jesus healed the blind man near Bethsaida. The
story reminded me of zombies.
My husband
was a fan of the television series The Walking Dead for a long time. I
refused to watch it with him, thinking it was a waste of time. The zombies were
dead, but they did not know it. They attacked living people in order to
survive.
According
to the internet, the eleven series drama is “based on the comic book series
written by Robert Kirkman. This gritty drama portrays life in the months and
years that follow a zombie apocalypse. A group of survivors travel in search of
safety and security, constantly on the move in search of a secure home. But the
pressure each day to stay alive sends many in the group to the deepest
depths of human cruelty, and they soon discover that the overwhelming fear of
the survivors can be more deadly than the zombies walking among them.”
There are
people right now who roam the earth like zombies. They do not have the Holy
Spirit living in them. They move from moment to moment in survival mode. They
try to fill the holes in their hearts with worldly things. Only God can fill
the holes He created in our hearts.
Jesus
wants me to be more sensitive to their needs, like He was. I must reach out to
those who are spiritually blind. I am not to fear them or run from them, but run
to them and pour his unconditional love over them. He will take care of their
souls as He promised.
I will
seek out the walking dead and show them the love of Jesus. I hope you will, too!
