“For even the Son of Man did not come
to be served,
but to serve, and to give his life as
a ransom for many.”
(Mark 10:45 NIV)
I drove
home from Madison after spending the afternoon playing Dominoes with friends
and singing at the local nursing home. A text came through on my Tahoe’s dashboard,
“Our pianist is sick, can you cover for her at choir practice tonight?” I asked
the Lord what I should do.
Jeff, my
husband, and I had planned on going out for dinner at our favorite Mexican
restaurant that evening. Yet I knew God wanted me to help at the other church.
This was one of those opportunities to be available to be a blessing, and in
turn be blessed. I called Karisa and told her I would be there.
I then
called Jeff and told him I was headed home, but there was a change of plans. He
said, “I’m all cleaned up, ready to go out.” We discussed it when I walked in
the door and I knew I had made the right choice. A can of soup was the meal for
the evening and I drove after dark twenty miles back to Madison.
God put me
here, now, to be used by Him in inconvenient ways. I am glad God made me available.
It was a fun evening playing for friends in a church of which I used to be a
choir member, many years ago. They even invited me to join them on an upcoming
choir trip.
I thought
when I moved away from Madison to Greensboro, I would need to sacrifice my
relationships to the west. Not so! It was my heavenly Father’s way of actually
expanding my horizons.
I will seize every opportunity to serve wherever when asked. I hope you will too!
