Macy Mouse

by Macy Johnson

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you;

I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

(Isaiah 41:10 NIV)

As an Amazon Prime member, I receive monthly emails with new eBooks’ selections. I choose one to download for free and most often select a mystery or historical novel. This month I scanned the entire list, down to the children’s book. To my surprise it was “Julius and Macy – A Very Brave Night” by Annelouise Mahoney.

Off Balance

 by Macy Johnson

“Honest Scales and balances are from the Lord;

all the weights in the bag are of his making.”

(Proverbs 16:11 NIV)

I opened my sleepy eyes on day eleven after receiving the first COVID vaccine. The curtains on my windows spun around me – vertigo! That dreaded sense of imbalance forced me to keep my head straight and level in order to function through the day.

I walk daily to strengthen my legs, as well as my heart. Running is not in my genes. My legs ache to move slowly, steadily on a solid path. Walking poles help to keep me steady and balanced.

Miracles

 by Macy Johnson

“Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent.”

(Matthew 11:20 NIV)

A miracle is defined by Merriam-Webster as “a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency.”

Without a Hitch

 by Macy Johnson

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

(1 Peter 5:7 NIV)

The phrase “without a hitch” means smoothly, easily, and successfully. That is far from what we experienced.

It was a clear, sunny, Sunday afternoon in January. I returned home from church and our new popup camper was hitched to my husband’s Tacoma. Jeff’s truck was packed for the maiden voyage of the Fish Camper, my affectionate name for what Jeff calls Macy’s Playhouse.

Dream Lessons

 by Macy Johnson

“Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers,

they hated him all the more.”

(Genesis 37:5 NIV)

“After Herod died, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt.”

(Matthew 2:9 NIV)

Two Josephs, many dreams. Some paved the way for one Joseph, favored son of Jacob/Israel, to be carried away to Egypt. Other dreams led another Joseph, earthly father of Jesus, to escape to Egypt. Both Josephs obediently relied on hope in their Savior God, and acted on vital lessons learned in their sleep.

Restored Connection

 by Macy Johnson

“So the Lord God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.’”

(Genesis 3:14-15 NIV)

My husband is a retired employee of the power company. Nonetheless, we were often without electricity due to rain, snow, or ice storms. We lost the connection. I called the help line to let them know we lost power. Our house was built to be fueled by electricity and was a shell, a dead skeleton, without it.

Joyful Songs

 by Macy Johnson

“Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;

come before him with joyful songs.”

(Psalm 100:1 NIV)

A dear friend let me borrow her copy of “The One Year Book of Hymns.” I started reading it in January, excited to learn the personal stories of authors of different spiritual songs. Every verse was penned to glorify God.
