“For I am the Lord, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand and
says to you,
Do not fear; I will help you.”
(Isaiah 41:13 NIV)
One
morning while camping at Georgia’s Fort McAllister State Park near Savannah, I
read a devotional story about a boy hit by a car while riding his bicycle. My
husband and I planned to take a long bike ride that morning. It would be the
first time I got on my bike, Penelope, since the accident when I fractured my
pelvis. Was the devotional a sign?
I bravely rode
Penelope around the campground and sang the tune, “When I am afraid, I will
trust in you.” It boosted my confidence to force a smile and look ahead at the
beauty all around me. Spanish moss hung over the shaded drive. Campers gathered
outside their tents and RVs to enjoy the clear, spring morning with their
families and pets.
Jeff and I
deftly maneuvered around walkers and gave a wide berth to an occasional car on
the road. My body was completely healed and itched to return to an activity I enjoyed
as a teenager.
A slight
incline on the campground road confirmed my weakness. I will ride only on level
paths and rejoice that I can ride my bike again! God allowed my accident to weaken
me so He could strengthen me for what is ahead.
As I wrote
this devotion, a biker sped past our camper and a runner trotted by. Jeff took
a bike ride before breakfast. I love how the Holy Spirit confirms His leading
in so many ways. It is a blessing to be able to experience His presence on two
wheels again.
I will not shy away from opportunities to enjoy my heavenly Father’s creation in new and old ways. I hope you will, too!
