“Many are the plans in a man’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that
prevails.”
(Proverbs 19:21 NIV)
My family arrived home in the early evening, after a
delicious dinner at a local restaurant. I was the first one in the door and ran
straight for the bathroom. At eight years old, I still couldn’t quite judge the
size of my bladder after many glasses of sweet iced tea.
My steps came to an abrupt halt. I found myself looking into
the eyes of our yardman who filled up our tiny bathroom with his oversized
presence. “Hi David!” I exclaimed. “What are you doing here?”
My father heard me and quickly headed down the hall. David
pushed past me and ran into our den with Daddy at his heels. They both ran
through the door to the back yard where Daddy told David to never come back to
our house again. I was stunned and didn’t know what to think or what was
happening.
Many years later my father received a phone call from one of
his college classmates, a local dentist.
He told Daddy he could have his college class ring back for a price. The
dentist had bought it from one of his young patients who explained it was a
gift from his father, David. Daddy gave his classmate $100 to get his treasured
ring back. I believe the Lord stepped in that day and orchestrated the return
of my father’s college class ring in ways only He could.
My father could have sued David long ago for the items stolen
that night, but he didn’t. My Daddy trusted God to return whatever was taken
from him.
I will trust
my heavenly Father to work all things out according to His perfect plan. I hope
you will, too!
