“Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves is heard in our
land.”
(Song of Songs 2:12 NIV)
I received
a large, flat, white envelope with instructions on the outside: “Do Not Bend.”
Jeff, my husband, and I looked at each other. “What could this be?” he asked. I
opened the package to discover a colorful floral rendition painted on cardboard
with instructions to bring it to life.
I pushed in
the bottom of the vase and pulled the cardboard arms of flowers out, one at a
time, as directed. Suddenly before our eyes appeared a gorgeous display of
sunshine and cheer. The room brightened and my mood lifted.
Who would
ever guess the postal service could deliver a gorgeous floral spray in a flat casing
with minimal care needed? You never know in what form a godsend will appear. The
Holy Spirit busted through my finite mind’s limitations to remind me that He is
still in control and all unusual blessings come from Him. Anything is possible
with my Creator, even flat flowers that appear three dimensional.
Look
around you today at the unlikely ways for God to bless. With Jesus in my heart,
I can turn a grocery clerk’s scowl into a smile, perhaps even a chuckle. With
the strength of a prayer, I can lift the most hardened criminal up into the
arms of my Savior. I can pray for the driver and passengers of every vehicle I
meet on the street.
I do not
need to go anywhere to be a blessing. My heavenly Father will bring many
opportunities to my door. He knows the needs of those He loves and rushes to
fill them.
I will
look for the work of the Holy Spirit in all the unlikely blessings around me
today. I hope you will, too!
