“Since no man knows the future,
who can tell him what is to come?”
(Ecclesiastes 8:7 NIV)
As a
little girl, I anxiously sat still in my seat surrounded by family and friends
in the Florida theater on Palafox Street in Pensacola. We waited patiently for
the featured movie presentation to begin. With a bag of popcorn clutched in my
hands, we would be entertained first with “Previews of Coming Attractions.”
Now, as a
Nana in her seventies, I have discovered God works in similar ways as the movie
industry. When I think back on what has happened in my life, I can identify
previews of what was to come.
During my
first marriage, I relocated from Ohio to Atlanta in 1977. In 1978 a divorce
swept me back into my parents’ home in Pensacola. Many years later, I was
called back to Georgia to work and have stayed here. The earlier time was a
sort of preview to my later years.
My first
pregnancy came in 1982. My husband, Jeff, and I were thrilled and anxious. The
pregnancy ended in a miscarriage after ten weeks. During this sad time, we
trusted God for guidance. I became pregnant again a year later and gave birth to
our wonderful son, Alex. Our daughter, Libby, was born soon after. When I look
back on the loss of our first child, I am thankful for God’s plan to give me a
preview of carrying a new life in my body.
God has
given us previews of His coming attractions in the book of Revelation. I cannot
fully understand the story until I have seen the movie or read the book or
experienced it firsthand. He will reveal His Story as I can accept it.
I will look for and enjoy previews of coming blessings in my life. I hope you will, too!
