“But Jesus knew what they were thinking
and said to the man with the shriveled
hand,
“Get up and stand in front of
everyone.”
So he got up and stood there.”
(Luke 6:8 NIV)
I drove to
a hospital auxiliary nominating committee meeting one sunny afternoon. The
slate of most officers for the next year had been determined. The current
officers had accepted renewal of their service, except for the Treasurer. When
asked if I would assume that position, I explained, “I am committed to serve as
the hospital gift shop’s manager.”
The rhythm
of the jazz music on my car’s radio seemed to suggest, “Why not?” Why not
accept the position? I had already been asked to be the Treasurer at my
church. Could one process not compliment the other?
The more I
do, the more I feel the Holy Spirit express, “I am doing this through you, and I
can do more, if you will let me. Be brave and accept opportunities for me to
serve through you. Get up and stand up in front of everyone, especially when
you are afraid. Take a chance and do what Jesus asks you to do.”
My Lord
and Savior is my greatest Treasure. My calling is to record and reveal Him to
everyone around me. That is also the role of an effective, faithful treasurer.
I accepted
the hospital auxiliary’s Treasurer position and the challenge for God to work
in and through me in new ways. As I see it, the more I am connected with people
in this life, the more God Sightings I will have, and the more ways I can
serve. This adventure of life is growing exponentially as I age with grace.
I will welcome
new roles and new responsibilities Jesus offers to me. I hope you will, too!
