“The promise is for you and your
children
and for all who are far off -
for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
(Acts 2:39 NIV)
On a
recent visit, our daughter brought a puzzle for her children to put together
while they were in our home. I opened the box and spread out the pieces on our
breakfast table. Libby and I sat across from each other to search for the edge
pieces - a common ritual with newly-opened puzzles.
The title
of the puzzle was, “Things Parents Say.” As I read over many savings cleverly arranged in the picture, I giggled. I recognized them all.
Money doesn’t grow on trees.
Why? Because I said so, that’s why.
Turn down that music!
You need to follow your dreams.
If you live under our roof, you will
live by our rules.
Stop crying before I give you
something to cry about.
Don’t play with your food.
Have a good day at school.
You kids will be the death of me!
Your room looks like a cyclone hit it!
How do you know you don’t like it? You
haven’t tried it!
This hurts me more than it hurts you.
Don’t make me turn this car around.
Shut the door - were you raised in a
barn?
One day you’ll thank me.
I thought
back on the days of being a parent with young children at home, and on the days
when I was a young child. I am certain those words out of my parent’s mouth
originated in the mouth of my heavenly Father. He is the ultimate Teacher of
all parents. I can never thank Him enough for all He has taught me.
I will pay close attention to the instructions and admonitions of my heavenly Father. I hope you will, too!
